Fuel Stop Fire Erupts at Argentina's Turismo Carretera Race

A tense situation unfolded during the Desafío de las Estrellas Turismo Carretera race in San Juan, Argentina, when a fire erupted during a mandatory fuel stop. The incident occurred around the 30th lap of the 66-lap race.

A fuel leak from a precariously handled drum ignited, sending flames towards the mechanics and safety personnel attending the car. The quick response of safety crews with fire extinguishers prevented the situation from escalating further. Fortunately, no injuries were reported among the race personnel.

Driver Mauricio Lambiris, whose car caught fire, was understandably frustrated and kicked his vehicle after exiting the cockpit. The fire led to the first of three race interruptions, with the safety car deployed and the pit lane temporarily closed. This incident officially eliminated Lambiris from the competition.

The race experienced two further interruptions later on: one when José Manuel Urcera's car stopped on lap 57, and another with five laps remaining due to Nicolás Bonelli's withdrawal. The fuel stop fire, however, was the most dramatic event of the day.
