Fugitive Gülüstan Kurt Arrested During Live Stream

Gülüstan Kurt was broadcasting live on social media when police raided her home in Istanbul and arrested her.

Beyoğlu police had been searching for wanted people when they identified Kurt, 33, as someone sought over a finalized sentence totaling 64 years and six months. Officers located her home in Esenler and began monitoring it.

The raid took place on July 31 while Kurt was still live. She walked toward the ringing door and asked, “Who is it?” One viewer warned her, using her social-media name: “Hürrem’s door is ringing, don’t open it, Hürrem.” Her surprise as she looked through the door viewer appeared on the broadcast. Police entered after she opened the door, and the arrest was also captured live.

Who is it?

During questioning, authorities found that Kurt had 215 criminal records, most involving theft. Courts in Istanbul, Bursa and Izmir were seeking her over theft from people or objects carried by hand using special skill, theft of property kept inside buildings, theft of property belonging to public institutions, forgery of official documents and making a false statement to a population registry office.

Police sent Kurt to court after completing their procedures, and she was detained.
