Fugitive who rammed police officer twice caught after police shoot out tires

A fugitive with a history of evading law enforcement was apprehended in Hsinchu, Taiwan, after a dramatic chase that ended with police shooting out his tires.

Liu Wei-cheng, who had previously been sentenced to six months in prison for ramming a police officer with his car, was found by police asleep at the wheel in the middle of a road. When officers approached to question him, Liu, aware he was a fugitive, accelerated his vehicle, knocking over traffic cones and driving onto the sidewalk in an attempt to escape.

Police pursued Liu, who continued to evade them. When they managed to break his car window and ordered him to open the door, he again attempted to flee. This time, officers fired at his tires, disabling the vehicle and bringing his escape to an end. He was subsequently arrested for obstructing official business.

The court noted that Liu's actions demonstrated a disregard for law enforcement and that he had not learned from his previous offense. He was sentenced to an additional seven months in prison for his latest obstruction of justice.
