Full Tank Before the Ferry to Finland: "One Must Save"

Swedish fuel prices are attracting drivers to fill their tanks before boarding ferries to Finland. Both Swedish and foreign travelers are taking advantage of the lower prices in Värtahamnen, Stockholm, before embarking on long journeys east and south.

Kari Lappalainen, from Rättvik, filled his Volvo with diesel before heading to Helsinki and his hometown of Kuopio in eastern Finland. He noted that prices in Finland were over two euros per liter and emphasized the need to save money. Lappalainen acknowledged the desire to discourage excessive driving but pointed out that not everyone can afford an electric car.

He and his wife, Brita Edgarsdotter, believe the low Swedish fuel price is directly linked to the upcoming parliamentary elections in September. "I think it's insane that we lowered the reduction obligation. We should be more concerned about the environment. Why should we have a lower price than the rest of Europe?" Edgarsdotter questioned. Lappalainen's response was blunt: "Because we have elections in September."

Ahead of them in the ferry queue, Mikael Lappalainen and Sara Andersson, traveling in a gasoline hybrid, also topped up their tank. They planned to reach Helsinki and Kuopio before needing to refuel again. Sara Andersson, who works with horses and commutes extensively, stated that driving is a necessity for her job, making the lower prices beneficial.

Ole Frederiksen from Denmark, on a motorcycle tour, also observed the low Swedish gas prices. He suggested that Danes could learn from Sweden's pricing. Johannes Emken and Jannah Emken from Potsdam, Germany, filled their car's tank in Sweden before heading to Copenhagen and Germany, having heard about the tax cuts.
