Funvisis Reports Four Earthquakes Overnight, Three in Falcón

Venezuela recorded four new earthquakes early Tuesday, three of them in Falcón state, according to the Venezuelan Foundation for Seismological Research, known as Funvisis.

The first tremor struck east of Churuguara at 2:49 a.m. It measured magnitude 4.4 and occurred at a depth of 3.3 kilometers. Three minutes later, at 2:52 a.m., a magnitude 3.4 earthquake was recorded in Aroa, in Yaracuy state, at a depth of 8.5 kilometers.

Monitoring systems later detected two aftershocks in Churuguara. The first, at 5:15 a.m., measured magnitude 2.6 and had a depth of 3.9 kilometers. The second measured magnitude 2.8.

Funvisis said last Friday that it had recorded 96 earthquakes across Venezuela between August 28 and September 3, with magnitudes ranging from 1.4 to 4.4. Its institutional report counted 1,915 seismic events during the first 1,704 hours of continuous monitoring after the sequence began on June 24. The agency reiterated that seismic activity cannot be predicted.

The latest figures come as Venezuela continues recovery from a catastrophe reported 10 weeks earlier. National Assembly President Jorge Rodríguez said on August 24 that 6,509 deaths had been confirmed. State services had provided medical care to 226,696 people, while rescue teams had brought 6,462 people to safety.

The reconstruction bulletin said authorities had delivered 335 homes to affected families and removed 600,790.70 tons of debris, representing 28.61% progress in clearing urban areas. The Venezuelan Education-Action Program on Human Rights, known as Provea, urged the government to update epidemiological and missing-person records continuously and transparently. “We demand that the Venezuelan state update and publish both figures continuously.
