Furkan Foundation Founder Alparslan Kuytul Detained in Adana Operation

Alparslan Kuytul, the founder of the Furkan Foundation, and his wife, Semra Kuytul, were detained in a dawn police operation in Adana. The operation, conducted by the Anti-Terror Branch of the Adana Police Department, involved a search of Kuytul's residence. Multiple foundation members were also taken into custody.

Kuytul, who was born in Adana in 1965, completed his civil engineering degree at Çukurova University before studying Islamic Law at Al-Azhar University in Egypt from 1993 to 1997. He established Kardeşler Kitabevi in 1988 and the Furkan Education and Service Foundation in 1994. His wife, Semra Kuytul, is also considered a prominent figure within the foundation.

This is not Kuytul's first encounter with law enforcement. He was previously arrested and detained in January 2018 as part of an investigation by the Adana Chief Public Prosecutor's Office. He was released in January 2019 but re-arrested following an appeal. Although later acquitted of charges related to aiding a terrorist organization and spreading terrorist propaganda, he was detained again in May 2022 in connection with an investigation into the alleged kidnapping of businessman Koray Sarısaçlı. He maintained his innocence in that case, stating he gave no such orders, and was released in June 2023.

Following their detention, Kuytul and his wife, along with other foundation members, were brought to the Adana Forensic Medicine Institute for health reports before being taken to the police station. The detentions occurred shortly after a statement from Presidential Advisor Oktay Saral, who warned Kuytul, "Your water has heated up enough, Kuytul! You haven't learned, your turn will come too!"
