Fusion Festival interrupted due to fires outside grounds

The Fusion Festival, a major alternative music and culture event in Lärz, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, has been temporarily interrupted due to fires burning outside its grounds. Festivalgoers were instructed to gather on a runway at the former Soviet military airfield as emergency services tackled the blazes. The Neubrandenburg police department confirmed the interruption occurred shortly before 7 p.m. and that they are verifying if all attendees have evacuated a specified zone. Firefighters are currently working to contain the fires, and the duration of the operation remains uncertain. No injuries have been reported. Organizers described the situation as a temporary pause, citing the need to move people away from the smoke. They anticipate the festival will continue. Some attendees were seen leaving the site in vehicles and on bicycles, while the majority proceeded to the designated runway. The atmosphere remained calm despite the smell of smoke. The festival, which began Wednesday and was scheduled to run until Sunday, expects around 65,000 visitors. It is known for blending various music genres with theater and political education. The organizers have announced a hiatus for 2027, with plans to resume in 2028.
