Gabriel Attal Demands Accountability for Illegal Traveler Encampments: 'You Damage, You Pay'

Gabriel Attal, campaigning for Renaissance and serving as its secretary general, is taking a strong stance against illegal encampments by travelers, declaring "You degrade, you pay." The former prime minister proposes "firm sanctions" and insists that the occupants, not taxpayers, should bear the financial burden of damage caused by unauthorized settlements.

Attal's remarks came during a visit to Vendée, where he addressed the issue of illegal installations by the traveling community. He stressed that while he respects "all ways of life," they must all adhere to the laws of the French Republic. He highlighted recurring annual problems where sports fields, parking lots, and agricultural lands are occupied, often with occupants seemingly disregarding legal norms.

"In the Republic, no tradition, no way of life can place itself above the law," Attal stated, underscoring his commitment to upholding legal order. The candidate's firm position aims to address public concern over repeated illegal occupations that disrupt communities and strain local resources. His proposed approach seeks to shift accountability directly onto those responsible for the damage, aiming for a more equitable and lawful resolution to these persistent issues.
