Gabriel Sara’s late free kick gives Galatasaray 3-2 win over Başakşehir

Gabriel Sara struck in the 90th minute to give Galatasaray a 3-2 away win over Başakşehir in the fourth week of the Turkish Süper Lig.

Galatasaray started quickly and took the lead in the 17th minute. Victor Osimhen’s shot hit the crossbar and bounced down across the goal line. Referee Kadir Sağlam initially allowed play to continue, but awarded the goal after a VAR review.

Osimhen later had another effort ruled offside and left the match after suffering an injury. Başakşehir threatened before halftime, but Galatasaray went into the interval with a 1-0 lead.

Başakşehir equalized in the 66th minute when Eldor Shomurodov converted a penalty awarded after Sallai’s challenge on Fayzullayev. Galatasaray regained the lead five minutes later, with Lucas Torreira finishing a move built through quick passing in the box.

Başakşehir levelled again in the 76th minute when a corner deflected into the net off Davinson Sánchez’s head. Substitute Umut Bozok was sent off in the 79th minute after a challenge involving Galatasaray’s Leão. Sánchez then had a Galatasaray goal disallowed after a VAR review.

Sara decided the match in stoppage time. From a free kick just outside the penalty area, he sent the ball into the left side of the goal to complete Galatasaray’s 3-2 victory.
