Gachagua: We will protect ourselves against goons

Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has vowed to fight back against individuals he claims are disrupting his political rallies, stating his supporters will defend themselves if the police do not offer protection. Gachagua made these remarks while opening new offices for his party, the Democratic Congress Party (DCP), in Nakuru.

His statements followed an incident where his convoy was attacked in Kaptembwo, Nakuru West Sub-County, forcing him to abandon a rally. Six vehicles belonging to leaders, including Ol-Kalou MP Samuel Waweru, were damaged during the chaos. Gachagua accused President William Ruto of orchestrating the disruptions through a Nakuru MP who allegedly paid individuals to attack his rallies.

He also claimed to have received intelligence that police officers were instructed to avoid the area during the attack. Gachagua suggested that if the MP is proven to be used by the President, he should be removed from the Jubilee Party.

Gachagua further alleged that some police officers, unhappy with the current administration, had provided his team with intelligence about the planned disruptions. "We stood down our guard, hoping for protection from the government, but we are now on high alert and we will protect ourselves," he declared. He also accused senior police officers in Nakuru of collaborating with disruptive elements.
