Galatasaray bids emotional farewell to star striker Mauro Icardi

Mauro Icardi's impactful four-year journey with Galatasaray has come to an end, as the club officially announced his departure. Despite an offer to extend his contract, negotiations did not result in an agreement, leading to the team's farewell.

Head coach Okan Buruk shared an emotional message for the Argentine star, thanking him for his contributions. "Farewells are always difficult, but saying goodbye to a football icon who etched his name in Galatasaray's history, with whom we won trophies and dominated the league, setting significant records over the last four years, is even harder for me," Buruk stated.

As the Galatasaray family, we are saying goodbye to a very special footballer today, but I know Mauro Icardi will always remain an important member of this community and continue to proudly represent our club worldwide. We love you very much, king."

During his 3.5 seasons with Galatasaray, initially on loan from PSG in October 2022 before a permanent €10 million transfer, Icardi achieved significant success. He won three Süper Lig titles, one Turkish Cup, and one Turkish Super Cup. Notably, he broke Gheorghe Hagi's long-standing record, scoring 77 goals in 134 appearances, including 25 goals in the 2023-2024 season to become the league's top scorer.
