Gangnam JS Hospital CEO Appointed Chief Medical Officer for South Korean National Football Team

Dr. Song Joon-seop, the chief executive of Gangnam JS Hospital, has embarked on a significant role as the head physician for the South Korean national football team. He departed for Mexico on June 7 to assume his duties for the 2026 North, Central American, and Caribbean World Cup.

During the tournament, Dr. Song will be responsible for the comprehensive health and medical support of the national team players. His duties encompass injury prevention and management, pre- and post-match recovery strategies, nutritional guidance, hydration, and general condition monitoring, all within the scope of sports medicine.

His prior involvement with the national team includes participation in pre-tournament training camps, such as the one in Salt Lake City where he assisted with acclimatization to high-altitude conditions. This appointment marks his return to the role, having previously served as team physician in the 2010 and 2014 World Cups.

Dr. Song is also recognized for his expertise in stem cell therapy, which he has applied in treating and researching conditions for both domestic and international patients. Notably, he played a role in the recovery of former national team coach Guus Hiddink from arthritis.
