Garden Show Tradition: Thuringia Promotes Green Professions

Thuringia is actively promoting green professions and its rich horticultural heritage at the State Garden Show in Leinefelde-Worbis. As part of a family-focused event on Sunday, the state aims to attract interest in careers related to gardening and agriculture. The Ministry of Agriculture announced a diverse program at the "Gärtnertreff Thüringen" pavilion, designed to engage visitors of all ages.

Activities planned for the day include creative workshops such as decorating Thuringian garden gnomes and crafting seed balls and paper. Attendees can also participate in a quiz wheel focused on horticulture and school gardens, alongside other interactive offerings. "Thuringia has a long tradition in horticulture, which it combines today with modern training, sustainable agriculture, and vibrant educational work," stated State Secretary for Agriculture Marcus Malsch.

A permanent exhibition within the pavilion highlights Thuringia's historical parks and gardens, alongside its horticultural tradition. Notably, Thuringia stands out as the only German state to establish school garden education as a distinct subject within primary schools. "School gardens, in particular, make it tangible from an early age how nature, nutrition, sustainability, and practical learning are interconnected. This is a special Thuringian approach that we want to draw attention to," Malsch added.

The State Garden Show, themed "Reconciliation between City and Landscape," anticipates approximately 325,000 visitors by its closing on October 11. Thousands of season tickets and over 12,000 day tickets were sold in advance. With nearly 1,700 events scheduled, the show offers a wide array of concerts, courses, and activities.
