Gas explosion rocks Hsinchu street, waking residents

A powerful gas explosion rocked Gaocui Road in Hsinchu City, Taiwan, early Tuesday morning, startling residents from their sleep and causing widespread destruction. The blast, which occurred around 3:52 a.m., shattered the first-floor storefront of a residential building, exposing its internal structure. The force of the explosion sent debris flying, damaging multiple vehicles parked along the street and leaving the entire lane in a state of devastation.

Emergency services were immediately dispatched following multiple reports from panicked residents. Firefighters established a cordon around the blast site and began rescue operations and extinguishing residual fires. The immediate aftermath revealed mangled metal gates and a deformed canopy at the explosion's epicenter, with shattered glass and building materials littering the surrounding area.

Four individuals have been rescued from the scene so far. Residents described being jolted awake by a tremendous noise, with their houses shaking violently. One resident recounted emerging from their home to find the adjacent building destroyed. The Hsinchu City Fire Bureau's fire investigation unit is now working to determine the precise cause of the gas leak and subsequent explosion. The extent of injuries and the full scope of the damage are still being assessed.
