Gasoline Prices Drop in Ecuador, Super Falls by 87 Cents

Ecuadorian drivers will pay less for several types of gasoline and premium diesel starting August 12, 2026. The Agency for Regulation and Control of Hydrocarbons (ARCH) announced new fuel prices that will remain in effect until September 11.

The price for Extra and Ecopaís gasolines will decrease by 2.3 cents per gallon, from $3.265 to $3.242. Premium diesel will also see a reduction of 2.3 cents, moving from $3.204 to $3.181 per gallon. The most substantial price adjustment affects Super gasoline, which will drop by 87 cents, from $5.61 to $4.74 per gallon.

This reduction in Super gasoline represents a 15.5% decrease. Unlike Extra, Ecopaís, and premium diesel, the price of Super gasoline is deregulated and directly influenced by market conditions. Therefore, its price fluctuations are not subject to the same regulatory mechanisms applied to the other fuels.

The August price adjustments coincide with the implementation of Executive Decree 468, signed by President Daniel Noboa on August 11, 2026. This decree revises the regulatory framework for hydrocarbon derivative prices and modifies the exceptional, temporary, and gradual mechanism previously established by Executive Decree 444. The new decree outlines a monthly price reduction factor for terminal sales prices, ranging from 0.75% to 1.5%, which will be applied as long as the exceptional mechanism remains active.
