Gaza: Israeli army says it targeted Hamas commander inside hospital preparing attacks

The Israeli army announced Saturday that it targeted a Hamas commander within the premises of a Gaza hospital, while Gaza's health authorities reported three individuals injured in separate Israeli strikes near a hospital maternity ward. The army did not confirm if the commander was killed, but stated he was hiding within the Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital in Deir al-Balah.

According to the army, the commander was allegedly preparing terrorist attacks against Israeli soldiers and civilians. The strike occurred in a building adjacent to the main hospital facilities. The hospital, however, reported that three people were wounded in an Israeli strike near a warehouse close to the maternity ward.

The Israeli military asserted that it took measures to minimize risks to civilians and claimed to have warned Gaza's health authorities two days prior to cease using medical facilities for terrorist purposes. Earlier that day, the same hospital reported one death from Israeli gunfire in the eastern part of the city, which the Israeli army stated it was verifying.

These recent hostilities occur despite a ceasefire that took effect in October 2025. In Gaza City, the civil defense, operating under Hamas, reported two deaths and several injuries from an Israeli strike near a roundabout in the Tel al-Hawa neighborhood. The army stated it targeted a "military agent" in that area. Israel maintains its operations are necessary to eliminate threats from Hamas, the group responsible for the October 7, 2023 attacks that initiated the current conflict.
