GB's Hunt wins European 100m gold

Amy Hunt claimed her first senior international title by winning the 100m gold medal at the European Athletics Championships in Birmingham. This victory marks Great Britain's first gold of the event.

Hunt, who won world 200m silver last year and Commonwealth 100m silver recently, secured the top spot on home soil at the Alexander Stadium. She broke the 11-second barrier this season and produced a strong finish, moving from fifth to first in the latter half of the race to finish in 11.00 seconds.

Great Britain's Dina Asher-Smith, the defending champion, finished fifth with a time of 11.10 seconds. Poland's Ewa Swoboda took silver in 11.02, and Belgium's Delphine Nkansa won bronze in 11.06.

Hunt has potential opportunities to win more medals in the 200m and both women's and mixed 4x100m relay events. The British team also secured a silver medal in the mixed 4x400m relay, with the quartet of Yemi Mary John, Ben Jefferies, Charlotte Henrich, and Toby Harries finishing behind Norway.
