Gbajabiamila invited, not arrested, in PFIPC scandal: ICPC

Nigeria's anti-corruption agency has clarified that Femi Gbajabiamila, the Chief of Staff to the President, was invited for questioning and not arrested in connection with the Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council (PFIPC) scandal. Reports had suggested an arrest, but the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) stated Gbajabiamila voluntarily appeared at their headquarters to provide a statement.

The Commission confirms that the Chief of Staff’s visit was on the invitation of its investigators and consistent with its ongoing efforts to gather all relevant facts in the matter.

The ICPC confirmed that Gbajabiamila's visit was in line with their ongoing efforts to gather facts for the investigation into the purported PFIPC. The agency emphasized that he was not arrested but willingly honored the invitation. President Bola Tinubu had directed the ICPC to investigate the circumstances surrounding the PFIPC, an entity the Presidency has since disowned as fraudulent.

According to the ICPC, Gbajabiamila arrived on Monday, July 20, 2026, responded to investigators' questions, and left after giving his statement. The investigation into the alleged fake agency is continuing, with further updates promised. This controversy has also prompted parallel investigations by the House of Representatives, where various government agencies have appeared before lawmakers.
