Geopolitical Tensions: Analyzing the Shifting Global Order and the "Change of Epoch"

The world is undeniably in flux, undergoing a period of profound transformation akin to the eras of the printing press, the Industrial Revolution, or the advent of the internet. This "change of epoch," as we've previously termed it, is characterized by a complex interplay of forces, most notably the "clash of civilizations" theorized by Samuel Huntington. This tension is particularly evident between the Western, predominantly Christian world and the vast, non-Christian populations of Asia, whose sheer numbers rival or exceed our own.

Beyond this civilizational divide, a stark economic chasm separates the developed Global North from the Global South, where poverty and deprivation fuel instability. However, a more recent and perhaps more insidious rift has emerged, particularly under the current US administration. This new division is not primarily religious or economic, but rather ideological, separating nations that largely share a Christian heritage, white populations, and a common set of values—liberty, democracy, human rights, and family values—that have historically bound Europe and the Americas together, representing 20% of the global population.

For eighty years following World War II, a "pax americana" prevailed, bolstered by the Marshall Plan's reconstruction of Europe and the strengthening of democratic ideals. This period saw a relatively cohesive West, united by shared values and a common victory. Yet, the invasion of Ukraine by Russia has exposed and exacerbated long-simmering fissures within this Western bloc. The fear of Russian expansionism has compelled many to turn to NATO for collective defense, revealing a growing divergence in perspectives and priorities among former allies.
