George Clooney becomes French, joins list of 500 wealthiest citizens

Hollywood star George Clooney has joined the ranks of France's wealthiest individuals, securing the 500th position in the annual Challenges magazine ranking. His professional fortune is estimated at around 250 million euros.

Clooney and his wife Amal, along with their children, were granted French nationality in late December 2025. While his acting career, marked by about fifty films and prestigious awards like two Oscars and five Golden Globes, is well-known, his financial success is largely attributed to his business acumen.

His significant wealth accumulation began with the 2013 launch of the tequila brand Casamigos, co-founded with friends. Leveraging his global fame, the brand's sales soared, leading to its acquisition by British group Diageo in 2017 for $700 million plus bonuses. The trio has since ventured into non-alcoholic beer with their brand Crazy Mountain.

Clooney has expressed a strong attachment to France, owning a property in the Var region since 2021. He has praised French culture and transportation, like the TGV high-speed train. Despite taking French lessons, he humorously noted his language skills remain limited, though his wife's and children's French is fluent. His decision to seek French nationality was reportedly influenced by Donald Trump's return to power in early 2025.
