Georges-Louis Bouchez Mourns Father: 'I Never Thought I'd Have to Write This Message'

Georges-Louis Bouchez, the president of Belgium's Reformist Movement (MR) party, has announced the death of his father, Bernard Bouchez, sharing a poignant message on social media.

"I never thought I would have to write this message," Bouchez began, describing his father as a "model of work, self-sacrifice, resilience." He characterized Bernard Bouchez as a man who "always worked, one more day," and who "lived and died as he lived, without noise, without fanfare, discreetly."

Despite his own high public profile, Bouchez has consistently prioritized protecting his family from the pressures of fame. He mentioned that his father's presence in the media was rare, and that he initially hesitated to post a public message, believing his father might not have wished for such attention. However, he felt his father deserved recognition, "just once," for the man he was.

Bouchez expressed the profound personal loss, noting he would no longer hear his father's key in the door. He also acknowledged the impact his father's absence would have on his grandson, Charles-Louis, his dog Liloo, and the rest of the family. The MR leader concluded with a message of love, quoting his father: "But you have always been one of those who say what they do and do what they say. You also told me that one becomes important when people notice your absence. So there is no doubt that for us, you are the most important in the world… Bye Dad, I love you. And as you used to tell me: 'the show must go on!'"
