German football legends invest in Portuguese club Estrela da Amadora

A significant investment has been made in Portuguese football, with a German investment group acquiring a majority stake in Primeira Liga club Estrela da Amadora.

The group, which includes prominent former German international footballers Thomas Muller, Mats Hummels, and Yann Sommer, has purchased 90% of the club for 40 million euros. This transaction marks a record sale for a Portuguese sports company (SAD).

The investment was led by ADvantage and LEAD funds, with support from KI Group. The new ownership structure brings together investors with expertise in sports, investment, and technology, as well as strategic partners connected to international football. German businessman Johannes Mosmang will assume the role of club president.

Mosmang expressed enthusiasm for the new chapter, highlighting Estrela da Amadora's historical significance, unique identity, and passionate community. He stated the goal is to build a disciplined and sustainable project that will make fans, the community, and all club members proud. Estrela da Amadora has seen a rapid rise, climbing from the fourth tier of Portuguese football to the top flight since its formation in 2020 through a merger.
