German Foreign Minister Confirms Berlin's Support for Ukraine Through Winter

German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock visited Kyiv to reaffirm Berlin's unwavering support for Ukraine, condemning Russia's persistent attacks on civilian targets. During her visit, Baerbock denounced the deliberate targeting of essential infrastructure, such as power and heating systems, by Russian forces.

"Putin is trying to exhaust the people of Ukraine. But their society is resilient. We stand with them this coming winter too. Putin will not achieve his goal," Baerbock stated, emphasizing Germany's commitment to assisting Ukraine through the challenging winter months. She asserted that despite Russia's efforts, Ukraine's societal resilience would prevail.

Baerbock's visit coincided with heightened Russian aerial assaults. She described these attacks as "reckless killing of civilians." Earlier that day, Russian drone and missile strikes resulted in casualties in Kyiv and the southern city of Zaporizhzhia. The attack in Dnipropetrovsk region tragically claimed 16 lives, with nine people reported missing and 130 injured.

Ukraine is preparing to mark its 35th anniversary of independence from the Soviet Union on August 24th, the fifth consecutive anniversary observed during wartime. Germany's continued support, both military and humanitarian, aims to bolster Ukraine's defense capabilities and aid in its preparation for the winter, underscoring a strong transatlantic alliance against Russian aggression.
