Girl, 11, Critically Injured After Hair Trapped in Pool Drain in Italy

An 11-year-old girl is fighting for her life after a horrific accident at a beach establishment in Sestri Levante, Italy. The child was at a small, shallow pool near the changing rooms when her hair became entangled in a suction drain.

The powerful suction pulled the girl underwater, making it impossible for her to free herself. Witnesses immediately attempted to rescue her, but the entanglement proved difficult to overcome. Amidst the frantic efforts to save her, emergency services were called.

Paramedics arrived quickly and began resuscitation efforts, but the girl showed no response. An emergency helicopter was dispatched, and she was transported to the Gaslini Pediatric Hospital in Genoa. She is currently in the intensive care unit and has not regained consciousness since the incident.

Carabinieri have since secured the pool area and are interviewing witnesses. The girl's mother is at her side at the hospital.
