Girl swept away by flood in Makwanpur found dead after 3 days

An 11-year-old girl, Sumitra Blon, who was swept away by floodwaters in Makwanpur, Nepal, on August 18 has been found dead. Her body was discovered on Friday morning in the Rapti River at Lamitar in Manahari Rural Municipality-3.

Sumitra had gone missing while returning home from Nirmal Secondary School in Bastipur, Hetauda Sub-Metropolitan City-19. She was swept away by the Basudev River in the same area. Police and local residents had been conducting a search for her since her disappearance.

Her body was found about five kilometers downstream from the initial location where she was carried away by the river. The incident highlights the dangers of flash floods, with other individuals also reported to have been swept away. One person was rescued immediately, while another victim was found dead on the same day Sumitra went missing. The body of a third girl was recovered the following day, August 19.
