Go Woo-seok sent to minors 11 days after MLB debut

The transition to Major League Baseball has proven challenging for South Korean pitcher Go Woo-seok. After making his MLB debut with the Minnesota Twins on April 10, he was optioned to Triple-A on April 21, just 11 days later.

Go Woo-seok's latest appearance on April 21 saw him pitch one inning against the Cleveland Guardians, where he surrendered four hits, including a home run, resulting in three earned runs. This outing significantly increased his earned run average from 3.00 to 9.00. The previous day, he also struggled with control against the Chicago Cubs, issuing two hits and a walk in an inning pitched, though he managed to avoid giving up any runs.

In his four MLB appearances, Go Woo-seok pitched a total of four innings, giving up eight hits (two home runs) and four earned runs, while striking out five batters and walking two. His demotion means he will be replaced on the 26-man roster by left-handed pitcher Kendry Rojas.

Go Woo-seok, formerly the closer for the LG Twins in the Korea Baseball Organization, declared his intention to move to MLB after the 2023 season. He signed a two-year, $4.5 million contract with the San Diego Padres via the posting system but spent time in their minor league system without reaching the majors. After being traded to the Minnesota Twins on April 8, he finally made the big league roster and debuted on April 10, only to face a return to the minor leagues shortly after.
