Golan warns Sara Netanyahu of NIS 2.5m. lawsuit over 'serious defamation,' demands apology letter

Yair Golan has given Sara Netanyahu 24 hours to issue a public apology or face a NIS 2.5 million lawsuit over what he called “defamation in its most serious form.” The Democrats chairman also wants Netanyahu, the prime minister's wife, to donate to survivors of the Supernova music festival.

The warning followed a Channel 14 interview in which Sara Netanyahu suggested that Golan had known about the October 7, 2023, Hamas attack before it began. Her remarks echoed conspiracy theories alleging betrayal, although the report said she offered no evidence. Golan, a former senior military officer, put on his uniform that morning and traveled south from central Israel to the festival site to rescue people under attack.

The apology demanded by Golan says his actions were the opposite of prior knowledge. It states that he went to the Gaza border area armed only with his weapon, risked his life to save young people from the Nova festival and learned of the attack when the first sirens sounded at 6:29 a.m.

Golan said the dispute reflects a broader effort to rewrite the events of October 7 and shift responsibility for what he called the country's greatest failure. He accused his opponents of portraying people who defended Israel as traitors and those who funded Hamas and abandoned national security as victims. He also promised to establish a state commission of inquiry into government failures during the attacks.

By publication time, Sara Netanyahu had not apologized. Likud said she had never claimed there was a conspiracy surrounding October 7 and accused left-wing media of manipulating public understanding. The Democrats party maintained its demand.
