Golden Village to close Plaza Singapura outlet in August after 28 years

Cinema chain Golden Village announced it will close its Plaza Singapura outlet on August 16, marking the end of an era after 28 years. The closure comes as the mall prepares for a significant revamp, prompting the cinema to wind down operations in phases.

The six cinema halls at the Plaza Singapura location will host their final screenings on August 2. The remaining halls will continue to operate until the outlet's last day. Golden Village stated that they currently have no confirmed plans regarding a potential reopening at the mall in the future.

"We will continue to provide great cinema experiences for our patrons at nearby locations such as GV Cineleisure, GV Bugis+ and GV Funan," a spokesperson assured, highlighting alternative venues for moviegoers.

Opened in 1998, the Plaza Singapura outlet has been a long-standing fixture and a beloved spot for many, particularly anime fans who attended numerous film screenings and community events there. To celebrate its legacy, Golden Village is launching several promotions. Movie ticket purchasers online for screenings at the Plaza Singapura outlet can enter a draw to win an e-voucher for a complimentary regular popcorn or Coca-Cola with the purchase of two tickets. This offer is valid for the first 10,000 patrons and redeemable from August 17 to October 31, 2026.

Additionally, Golden Village is inviting patrons to share their favorite memories of the outlet through a social media contest. The winning entry will receive an exclusive private cinema screening party for a selected movie at GV Cineleisure, offering a final chance to celebrate the cherished cinema.
