Gombe governor suspends acting DPP over misconduct allegations

Gombe State Governor Muhammadu Yahaya has suspended Abubakar Jungudo, the Acting Director of Public Prosecutions in the state Ministry of Justice. The suspension is pending the outcome of an investigation into allegations of misconduct leveled against him. Governor Yahaya approved the formation of a high-powered investigative panel to examine the complaints against the senior legal officer.

The decision was conveyed in a statement issued by Ismaila Uba Misilli, the Director-General of Press Affairs at the Government House. The Head of Civil Service, Prof. Mu’azu Shehu, stated that the governor approved the panel after considering the nature and gravity of the allegations.

The Governor, having carefully considered the nature and gravity of the allegations contained in the complaint, directed the immediate suspension of the Acting Director of Public Prosecutions pending the outcome of the investigation.

He added that the action was taken in line with due process to ensure a fair, transparent, and unhindered investigation.

The investigative panel will be chaired by Justice Haruna Kereng of the Gombe State High Court. Its members include a director from the Ministry of Justice, representatives from the Nigerian Bar Association, the Assistant Inspector-General of Police from the Force Criminal Investigation Department in Gombe, and the Department of State Services. The Permanent Secretary of Establishment and Service Matters in the Office of the Head of Civil Service will serve as the secretary. The panel is tasked with immediately investigating the allegations, examining all relevant facts and evidence, and submitting its findings and recommendations to the governor.
