Gombe PDP female gov aspirant withdraws lawsuit, backs Pantami

Monica Yahaya Kaltho, the sole female aspirant in the Peoples Democratic Party's (PDP) gubernatorial race in Gombe State, Nigeria, has withdrawn a lawsuit challenging the party's primary election. She has now declared her full support for the party's candidate, Professor Isa Pantami, ahead of the 2027 elections.

I acted after consultations and in respect of the appeal made by the leader of the PDP in Gombe State, His Excellency Senator Ibrahim Hassan Dankwambo, who advised me to withdraw from the legal action in the interest of party unity and progress.

Kaltho announced her decision on Saturday, stating that her withdrawal from the legal challenge followed extensive consultations and an appeal from the PDP leader in Gombe State, former governor Senator Ibrahim Dankwambo. She emphasized that her decision was made in the interest of party unity and progress.

"I acted after consultations and in respect of the appeal made by the leader of the PDP in Gombe State, His Excellency Senator Ibrahim Hassan Dankwambo, who advised me to withdraw from the legal action in the interest of party unity and progress," Kaltho stated. She described Dankwambo as "a father and a leader whose counsel I deeply value," and asserted that the unity of the PDP and the development of Gombe State are paramount, superseding personal ambition.

The unity of the PDP and the development of Gombe State are more important than personal ambition. Every member of the party should remain committed to the collective goal of ensuring PDP’s success in 2027 and delivering quality leadership to the people of Gombe State.

Professor Pantami welcomed Kaltho's decision, commending her "maturity, patriotism and commitment to the unity of our great party." He acknowledged her as an "important stakeholder" and pledged to involve all party members in efforts to strengthen the PDP and improve Gombe State. As part of reconciliation efforts, Pantami visited Kaltho at her residence to thank her and reaffirm his commitment to working collaboratively with all stakeholders for the upcoming governorship election.
