Google: U.S. Criticizes EU's Multi-Billion Euro Fine

The U.S. government has voiced strong criticism of the European Union's recent multi-billion euro fine imposed on Google, labeling it a significant source of trade uncertainty.

U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer stated in a release that while the EU often claims to pursue stability and predictability in trade relations, its recent measures are creating substantial uncertainty for American exports of goods and services to Europe.

The European Commission levied a fine of 890 million euros against Google's parent company, Alphabet. This marks the first penalty against the tech giant under the Digital Markets Act (DMA). The EU authorities justified the fine by alleging that Google unfairly prioritizes its own services within internet search results. Additionally, the Commission claims Google made it more difficult for third-party app providers on its Android operating system to direct users to alternative app stores and their own payment pages.

Google has publicly criticized the EU's decision and has not ruled out the possibility of legal action.
