Gov poll: Soldiers trying to block me from entering Osun — Davido

Afrobeats star David Adeleke, known as Davido, has accused soldiers of attempting to prevent him from entering Osun State on Saturday, the day of the state's governorship election. Davido, a vocal supporter of his uncle, incumbent Governor Ademola Adeleke, posted on X early Saturday, asserting that "every citizen of Nigeria has the right to movement at any point of time."

His claim comes despite the Nigeria Police Force announcing a statewide restriction of movement from Friday midnight until Saturday evening. This measure is part of security arrangements for the election, which involves deploying thousands of security personnel. Davido, whose uncle is seeking a second term, has been actively involved in his re-election campaign.

Former presidential media aide Bashir Ahmad responded to Davido's claim, calling it "dramatic." Ahmad emphasized that the movement restrictions were widely announced and are a normal security measure to ensure a peaceful and credible election. He stated that the right to freedom of movement does not supersede lawful security protocols.
