Government Cuts Rural LPG Refill Booking Interval to 25 Days

Rural LPG consumers in India no longer have to wait 45 days to book a refill. The government has reduced the interval to 25 days nationwide, bringing rural households in line with urban consumers.

Minister of State for Petroleum, Natural Gas and Tourism Suresh Gopi said the earlier restrictions responded to pressure on LPG supplies amid the war between the United States and Iran and the resulting blockade of the Strait of Hormuz. Urban consumers could book refills after 25 days, while rural consumers faced a 45-day interval.

“However, in view of the current LPG supply situation improving and the significant reduction in refill backlog, the central government has relaxed this restriction. Now, all domestic LPG consumers, regardless of urban or rural, can book refills at an interval of 25 days,” Gopi wrote in a Facebook post.

The minister also posted a copy of the Petroleum Ministry’s letter instructing oil marketing companies to implement the change immediately. India had already withdrawn restrictions on commercial LPG supplies in June, directing companies to restore non-domestic packed LPG deliveries to normal levels. Other measures had limited supplies to up to 50% of pre-crisis consumption for some industrial users.

The article says the disruption pushed up domestic LPG prices. A household cylinder rose by ₹60 in March and by a further ₹29 in June, bringing the price of a 14.2-kilogram cylinder in Delhi to ₹942.
