Government expands youth employment subsidies to Seoul, large regional firms

The South Korean government announced an expansion of its youth employment subsidy program on August 27th, aiming to boost job opportunities for young people. Under the new 'Youth Employment Recovery Plan,' subsidies will now be available for young individuals employed by mid-sized and small companies located within the Seoul metropolitan area.

Previously, these employment incentives were exclusively offered to those working for companies in regions outside the capital area. This policy shift broadens the scope of support, recognizing the employment challenges faced by youth in Seoul and its surrounding regions. The subsidy provides up to 4.8 million won over a two-year period for eligible hires.

Furthermore, the plan introduces incentives for larger corporations. Regional large companies that hire young individuals will be eligible to receive up to 3.6 million won in subsidies for a one-year period. The government has stated that these subsidies will be financed through the national treasury, underscoring its commitment to addressing youth unemployment nationwide.
