Government grants 50,000 peso bonus to military and federal forces

Argentina's government has authorized a special bonus of 50,000 pesos for active personnel within the Armed Forces and federal police and security forces. This exceptional payment, designated as remunerative but non-bonificable, will be issued once and distributed alongside August 2026 salaries.

The decision was formalized through two decrees, 695/2026 and 696/2026, overseen by the Ministry of Defense and the Ministry of National Security, respectively. The financial burden for this bonus will be covered by the budgetary allocations of the involved jurisdictions within the national public administration. President Javier Milei, Chief of Staff Diego Santilli, and the respective ministers of Defense and Security, Carlos Alberto Presti and Alejandra Monteoliva, signed the decrees.

The decree concerning the Ministry of Defense extends the bonus to active military personnel, including those in the Navy's Police Establishments and civilian personnel engaged in military intelligence. The government stated that this adjustment is necessary to ensure that the remuneration aligns with the demanding functions, responsibilities, and dedication required of these personnel.

Similarly, the second decree benefits active personnel in the Gendarmerie, including students, and active police officers from the Naval Prefecture and the Federal Police. It also includes active personnel and students from the Airport Security Police, as well as active personnel and students from the Federal Penitentiary Service. The National Directorate of Criminal Intelligence, under the Ministry of National Security, will also provide this extraordinary payment to its active staff.

In this context, the government emphasized that the measure seeks to acknowledge and maintain appropriate hierarchical recognition for members of the federal police and security forces. This recognition is based on the capacity, responsibility, and dedication essential for fulfilling their assigned duties. The Technical Advisory Commission for Public Sector Salary Policy has been empowered to issue any necessary clarifying or complementary regulations for the implementation of these decrees.
