Governor Adeleke launches re-election campaign, receives Omisore’s supporters

Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke officially kicked off his campaign for re-election on Tuesday, a launch significantly bolstered by the defection of key political figures. Supporters of Iyiola Omisore, the former National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), announced they are joining the Accord party and pledging their allegiance to Governor Adeleke's bid for a second term.

Let me start by assuring you all – Accord will be on the ballot; your votes will count; and I will be re-elected as your governor on August 15th.

The campaign launch in Osogbo, the state capital, also served as a platform for Adeleke to address concerns about the Accord party's ballot status. He assured attendees that the party would remain in contention for the August 15 governorship election, despite a recent Federal High Court judgment ordering the deregistration of Accord and four other parties. Adeleke expressed confidence that legal challenges would overturn the ruling, a sentiment reinforced by a subsequent halt to the judgment's execution by the Court of Appeal in Abuja on the same day.

"Let me start by assuring you all – Accord will be on the ballot; your votes will count; and I will be re-elected as your governor on August 15th," Adeleke declared at the rally. He vowed to resist what he termed "dark forces," emphasizing courage and the certainty of victory. The governor's move to the Accord party last year followed internal disputes within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

We, the supporters of Senator Iyiola Omisore, have decided to join Adeleke for his re-election.

Supporters of Omisore, a prominent political figure and former deputy governor, cited Adeleke's electoral track record and performance as reasons for their endorsement. "When Adeleke was alone without our support, he defeated our party three times. In 2022, he defeated us by more than 28,000 votes. Adeleke has done well throughout the state and deserves a second term," stated Folorunso Oladoyin, speaking on behalf of the defectors and a former Commissioner for Education. Governor Adeleke highlighted his administration's achievements, including settling inherited salary arrears, pension obligations, and rehabilitating infrastructure.
