Governor Eno builds home, provides scholarship for fallen officer's family

The Akwa Ibom State Government has provided comprehensive details regarding Governor Umo Eno's support for the family of a deceased police officer, confirming a package that includes a newly built home, N10 million in financial assistance, and a university scholarship for the officer's daughter. The officer had served at the Akwa Ibom State Government House until her death.

This clarification emerges days after a public dispute between the state's Commissioner of Police, Baba Azare, and a skit maker known as Local Man. The disagreement centered on claims that the N10 million donation, approved by the governor for the family, had not yet been delivered. In response, the Commissioner for Information, Aniekan Umanah, stated that the governor's intervention was multifaceted, extending beyond mere financial aid.

Umanah explained that Governor Eno approved the construction of a "compassionate home" for the late police inspector's family, following a recommendation from the governor's Chief Security Officer. Additionally, the governor sanctioned the full sponsorship of the deceased officer's last daughter, covering her studies from the current 300-level through to graduation. The N10 million was designated for burial expenses and the purchase of land for the family. Governor Eno also personally provided N8.5 million for the urgent surgical treatment of another police officer in need.

These disclosures aim to address the controversy sparked by the skit maker's allegations. The police commissioner had previously dismissed the claims, asserting that the governor had approved the support package promptly after learning of the officer's passing. Umanah emphasized that these interventions are part of the state government's extensive humanitarian program, designed to assist vulnerable citizens and security personnel facing hardship. He highlighted the governor's commitment to touching lives and restoring hope, stating that such measures are practical expressions of the administration's ARISE Agenda.
