Gowa Mayor Faces Impeachment Inquiry Over Allegations, Privacy Concerns Raised

An impeachment inquiry into the mayor of Gowa, Sitti Husniah Talenrang, has been reported to the Indonesian National Police's Criminal Investigation Unit (Bareskrim Polri). The complaint was filed by representatives of the Gowa community, who argue that the special committee's proceedings have encroached upon private matters, including the live broadcast of alleged immoral conduct.

We are the representatives of the Gowa Regency community, South Sulawesi Province, appearing at the National Police Headquarters regarding criminal reports from the entire series of impeachment processes.

Muallim Bahar, the legal representative for the Gowa community, outlined three main concerns. These include alleged misuse of the impeachment committee's budget, the live-streamed discussion of alleged misconduct by the mayor, and the dissemination of hoax information. Bahar specifically questioned the public broadcast of sensitive allegations, noting that even in a court of law, such matters are typically handled privately.

The second is the live broadcast of alleged immoral conduct, allegedly committed by the Mayor of Gowa, which was broadcast live.

Mayor Talenrang has also expressed objections to the inquiry, asserting that it has moved beyond public policy into personal territory. She emphasized that the DPRD's oversight function should remain within the scope of public administration. The impeachment inquiry is currently focusing on three key issues: alleged abuse of authority in revoking doctoral scholarships, irregularities in the procurement of free school uniforms, and alleged misconduct related to regional governance.
