Goyang Mayor: Urgent response needed for new city's traffic demands; transportation network cannot be delayed further

Goyang Mayor Min Kyung-sun has pressed the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport for swift action on critical transportation infrastructure projects needed to support the city's growth. Meeting with Vice Minister Hong Ji-sun, Min emphasized that expanding public transport networks is no longer a postponable task due to large-scale development projects.

The expansion of the metropolitan transportation infrastructure is a task that can no longer be delayed due to large-scale development.

The mayor submitted a proposal detailing four key transportation issues for Goyang. These include reflecting the extension of the Goyang-Eunpyeong subway line to Ilsan in the 5th Metropolitan Area Comprehensive Transportation Plan, and securing preliminary feasibility for the Incheon Line 2 extension to Goyang. Additionally, Min requested the inclusion of the Goyang-Sinsa line in the national plan and government funding for the Wondang public bus depot construction.

Min highlighted the urgent need for the Goyang-Eunpyeong line extension, a roughly 2.04 km addition to the existing Saejeol Station-Goyang City Hall route. This extension is crucial to manage the increased traffic demand from new developments in the Pungdong 2 and Siksa 2 districts and to alleviate chronic congestion on Goyang-daero during peak hours.

The Goyang-Eunpyeong line extension project is a metropolitan railway project to extend the currently planned route from Saejeol Station to Goyang City Hall by approximately 2.04 km to Ilsan Dong-gu Siksa-dong.

Furthermore, Mayor Min engaged in discussions regarding the development of urban air mobility (UAM) and future aviation industries. He presented Goyang's vision for becoming a hub for the metropolitan area's future aviation industry, outlining plans for UAM demonstration bases and aerospace industry growth. Min stressed the importance of government and institutional cooperation in this burgeoning sector, while reaffirming the city's commitment to improving public transportation for its citizens.
