Grain sector ‘disappointed’ as farmers choose cheap palm-kernel feed over local grain

Disappointment is growing in New Zealand’s struggling arable sector as farmers continue choosing imported animal feed over local grain.

When pastures are dry, dairy farmers can choose supplementary feed for their herds. Grain farmers hope more of them will select locally produced animal-feed wheat instead of cheap palm-kernel expeller, an imported byproduct feed.
