Grand Seiko dives deep with new Ushio 300 tide dive watches

Grand Seiko draws inspiration from the vast ocean for its new Ushio 300 series of dive watches, blending robust functionality with refined aesthetics. The "Ushio" (tide) collection captures the dynamic beauty of the sea surrounding Japan, presenting it through intricate gradient dials.

Two models are available: the deep blue SLGB023, evoking the ocean's depths, and the tranquil green SLGB025, reflecting sunlight on shallow waters. These gradient effects are achieved through advanced plating techniques, creating a visual journey from the deep sea to the sunlit surface, enhanced by wave-patterned dials that symbolize the ebb and flow of time.

Addressing the evolving market for dive watches, Grand Seiko's product designer Akira Yoshida noted a shift beyond pure functionality. "The birth of Ushio is not just a display of technology, but also a re-exploration of the aesthetic thinking and role transformation of dive watches in contemporary life through a new design perspective," Yoshida explained at the Taiwan launch event.

To enhance wearability, Grand Seiko reduced the case diameter from the previous 43mm to 40.8mm and decreased thickness by 1mm. Carefully adjusted lug proportions ensure these dive watches pair seamlessly with formal attire. The watches feature a power reserve indicator at 7 o'clock, omitting a date window to preserve the dial's tidal texture. Crafted from lightweight, scratch-resistant, and corrosion-resistant titanium, they are powered by the Caliber 9RB1 Spring Drive movement, hand-assembled by masters at the "Shinshu Time Creation Factory." This movement boasts an impressive annual accuracy of ±20 seconds and a 72-hour power reserve, complemented by 300-meter water resistance.
