Granddaughter indicted for allegedly killing grandfather after argument in Seoul

A 20-year-old woman has been indicted for allegedly killing her 80-year-old grandfather in their Seoul apartment following a heated argument. The incident occurred on May 18 in the Dongdaemun District, where the suspect, identified only as 'A', allegedly stabbed her grandfather in the shoulder with a kitchen knife during a dispute.

Following the stabbing, 'A' reportedly called emergency services herself. The victim was transported to a hospital but later succumbed to his injuries. The two individuals lived alone together, with no other family members residing in the household.

During police questioning, 'A' stated that she acted impulsively during the argument. However, prosecutors have indicted her for murder, citing evidence that suggests intent. This evidence includes the suspect's mobile phone search history and the alleged prior preparation of the weapon used in the attack.

Prosecutors reached their conclusion after considering various factors, including the relationship between the suspect and the victim, digital evidence, and the circumstances surrounding the weapon. Investigations also included interviews with other family members who are also the victim's bereaved relatives.
