Greece's PM to unveil 'Agenda 2030' at Thessaloniki Fair, focusing on stability and future reforms

Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis's presence at this year's Thessaloniki International Fair (TIF) will carry particular significance, as it precedes upcoming elections. Beyond the customary presentation of economic policy announcements and income support measures, Mitsotakis is set to unveil "Agenda 2030." This program serves as the governing party's roadmap for the next electoral cycle, charting a course for the country's transition into a new era.

The narrative underpinning the New Democracy party's bid for a third consecutive term in office hinges on the theme of stability. In a volatile geopolitical climate marked by regional conflicts and emerging challenges from new technologies and artificial intelligence, the government leadership identifies stability as a crucial element. "Agenda 2030" is envisioned as a continuation of the progress achieved during the party's eight years in power, which included stabilizing the economy after the financial crisis and implementing numerous reforms.

Government sources indicate that this stability is reflected in increased foreign direct investment, a reduction in unemployment from 18% to 8%, an increase in the minimum wage to 920 euros, and tax cuts that have boosted disposable income. Building on this foundation, "Agenda 2030" prioritizes further improvements in citizens' income and tackling the housing crisis. The agenda also aims to overcome the rigidities of the "deep state" and enhance the efficiency of the public sector to meet contemporary demands.

Reforms such as redefining permanent employment in conjunction with performance evaluations, as discussed during the constitutional review, are part of the plan. Continued digital upgrading of public services, leveraging artificial intelligence to improve effectiveness, is also a focus. Furthermore, the agenda addresses demographic challenges through measures supporting families, facilitating a balance between work and family life, and offering incentives for young couples to have children, alongside increasing available childcare spots.
