Grieving father of teen killed in Siraha protest demands justice

The family of 15-year-old Ganesh Yadav, who was fatally shot by police during protests in Siraha, Nepal, is demanding justice and accountability. Ganesh died on Thursday in Golbazar after being shot during demonstrations that erupted following an incident in Sunsari.

His father, Rambriksh Yadav, a driver and the sole breadwinner for his family of five, expressed profound grief and a clear demand: "The person who shot my son should be identified, made public, and prosecuted according to the law. That is my only demand." He emphasized that his family does not seek financial assistance but rather legal action against the perpetrator.

Ganesh was a student at Mount Everest Secondary Boarding School in Golbazar, living in rented accommodation with his elder brother to attend school. On the day of the incident, his mother had urged him not to go near the protests, but he assured her he was only going to watch.

The family has been informed that Home Minister Sudhan Gurung is expected to visit. Rambriksh Yadav stated he will use the opportunity to question the minister directly about the identity of his son's killer and the timeline for justice. Residents of the village have also called for an impartial investigation, public disclosure of the shooter's identity, legal action, and compensation for the bereaved family.
