A group of 14 individuals has been fined for deliberately causing traffic accidents to fraudulently obtain insurance payouts. The Cheongju District Court handed down fines ranging from 1 million to 15 million won to the defendants, all in their 30s, who were charged with violating the Special Act on Prevention of Insurance Fraud.

The individuals, who knew each other through local connections, staged nine traffic accidents in the Cheongju and Jincheon areas between May 2020 and August 2024. They are accused of defrauding insurance companies of approximately 80 million won.
