Group says expansion of Army divisions will enhance security

The Nigeria Citizens Watch for Good Governance (NCWGG) has lauded President Bola Tinubu's decision to expand the Nigerian Army to 12 divisions and recruit an additional 28,000 personnel. The group views this expansion as a pivotal "game changer" set to significantly strengthen the nation's security architecture and its ongoing fight against insecurity.

In a briefing in Abuja, the organization's Director of Communications, Igwe Ude-Umanta, stated that this move represents one of the most substantial reforms in Nigeria's security framework in recent years. He argued that it underscores the Tinubu administration's commitment to prioritizing national security under its "Renewed Hope Agenda." The group characterized the expansion not merely as an increase in troop numbers but as a strategic intervention poised to transform the country's security landscape.

The NCWGG also commended the Chief of Army Staff, Lt Gen Waidi Ibrahim Shuaibu, and the Chief of Defence Staff, Gen Olufemi Oluyede, referring to them as the "twin pillars" driving the military's transformation. The group expressed confidence in their leadership, asserting that it has restored faith in the Armed Forces and enhanced operational effectiveness nationwide. They further noted that the President's decision aligns with constitutional provisions making the security and welfare of the people the primary purpose of government.
