Group seeks protection of Nigerians in South Africa

The Nigerian Citizens Association South Africa (NICASA) has called on the newly appointed High-Commissioner-designate to South Africa, Femi Fani-Kayode, to make the welfare and protection of Nigerians in the country a top priority. NICASA, the apex body representing Nigerians in South Africa, emphasized that Fani-Kayode's appointment comes at a crucial time requiring decisive and compassionate leadership.

Fani-Kayode’s appointment came at a critical time when proactive and compassionate leadership was needed to strengthen Nigeria-South Africa relations and address challenges confronting Nigerian nationals.

Frank Onyekwelu, President of NICASA, stated that Fani-Kayode's extensive political experience, diplomatic background, and knowledge of international affairs are expected to significantly advance the interests of the Nigerian community. The association expressed its commitment to cooperating with the High Commissioner's office, anticipating that his leadership will foster renewed hope and enhance institutional collaboration.

NICASA specifically highlighted concerns regarding the social, economic, and security challenges confronting Nigerians residing in South Africa. The association also commended the Consul General of Nigeria in Johannesburg, Amb. Ninikanwa Okey-Uche, for her ongoing efforts in supporting the Nigerian community. NICASA looks forward to working closely with Fani-Kayode to promote unity, peace, security, development, and the overall well-being of Nigerians across South Africa.
