GS E&C adopts Snowflake data platform to integrate operations and boost AI application

GS Engineering & Construction (GS E&C) is implementing Snowflake, a cloud-based data platform, to unify its disparate work data. This strategic move aims to create a comprehensive, company-wide data platform, integrating information previously siloed across various internal systems.

The company is establishing a data catalog and a standardized management system. This initiative will ensure consistent data standards across different departments, thereby enhancing data reliability. It will also enable business units to quickly find and utilize the information they need for their operations.

GS E&C will also build an 'ontology' to define the relationships between data from different work areas, including processes, quality, safety, and costs. Beyond simple data aggregation and analysis, the company intends to systematize the connection between business knowledge and data. This integrated approach will support decision-making processes for both field operations and headquarters.

Furthermore, GS E&C plans to link the platform with its proprietary field project management system, 'PMX.' By connecting PMX's accumulated field data with Snowflake, the company will achieve integrated management of data throughout the entire project lifecycle. This will facilitate the creation of dashboards providing a consolidated view of processes and key statuses across all projects.

Looking ahead, GS E&C intends to utilize the accumulated and refined data to expand the application of AI technologies. Specific areas of focus include construction-specific applications such as process and quality analysis, business risk management, and early detection of safety hazards in the field. A GS E&C representative stated, "We plan to connect data generated in the field with the company-wide data platform and systematize existing work know-how through ontology. By combining AI technology, we will continuously develop data utilization models specialized for the construction industry."
