Guatemala's National Police plans Q555 million hospital project

The National Civil Police (PNC) in Guatemala is planning a significant investment to construct and equip a new general hospital for its agents and their families. The project is estimated to cost approximately Q555 million, according to police authorities during a briefing with Congressman José Chic.

Minister of Governance Marco Antonio Villeda previously stated on June 4 that the obra would cost Q32 million and was in the pre-investment phase. The PNC's social communication department clarified that the Q32 million represents the first disbursement included in the budget, while the total cost, encompassing construction and equipment, is projected to reach Q555 million.

Authorities detailed during the briefing that a technical visit to the construction site occurred on May 27. "It was the technical visit to the plot where the General Hospital of the Police will be built, and right now we are waiting for the offers to be received on June 22. Six companies interested in the project attended the technical visit," they indicated. The pre-investment phase includes an investment of Q6 million, with adjudication planned for September 30, 2026.

Despite an allocation in the Income and Expenditure Law, limitations related to financing sources persist. Police officials explained that while Q30 million was included in the law, the specific funding sources were not detailed, and the Ministry of Finance has stated it must come from the general budget assigned to the Ministry of Governance. Currently, only resources for pre-investment are slated for execution this year. The hospital is planned to be built in Los Cipresales, zone 6 of Guatemala City.
