Guayaquil's Parque Victoria to close for nearly two months for renovations

Parque Victoria, a significant green space in downtown Guayaquil, will undergo a temporary closure for extensive renovations. The park, located on Av. Quito between 10 de Agosto and Clemente Ballén, will be inaccessible to the public from July 3 until August 26, 2026.

The Empresa Pública de Parques, Áreas Verdes y Espacios Públicos, an entity under the Guayaquil Mayor's office, announced the closure. The maintenance work aims to revitalize the park's infrastructure, ensuring it remains a functional and appealing space for the community. Planned improvements include upgrades to the electrical and lighting systems, refurbishment of fountains, construction of a new public restroom, and enhancements to civil infrastructure such as benches and curbs.

"These works will allow us to have a dignified park for the enjoyment of children, young people, and families in the area," stated the Parks EP in their announcement. The company emphasized that these repairs are designed to provide more suitable and adequate spaces for community use.

Parque Victoria holds a rich history dating back to 1887. It was named to commemorate the victory of Gabriel García Moreno and Juan José Flores in the Battle of Guayaquil in 1860. The park is considered an emblematic site in the city, featuring a monument dedicated to Gabriel García Moreno. Its historical importance, combined with its role as a vital recreational area, underscores its significance to Guayaquil's residents.
